"text": "<<\nFrom: Dan Parmenter <dan at lec.com>\nSubject: (urth) Green\nDate: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 09:25:00 \n\n** Spoiler Warning **\n\nThis post obliquely refers to events at the end of EXODUS FROM THE\nLONG SUN....\n...what is the status of the \"Green = Luna\" hypothesis? >>\n\nWell, here's my take, worth what you paid for it. I've just completed\n_Exodus_, with the thought in mind of gathering what data I could re\nthis question.\n\nBTW: Fellow Urthlings, where else in Wolfe do you find a system which\nincludes a \"Blue\" world and a \"Green\" world inhabited by shape-\nchangers, hmmm? (This looks like Mr. Borski's territory here!?) \n\nUrth-Lune and St.Croix-St. Anne are both double-planet systems mutually\nco-orbiting each other as they revolve around their primary\nsun. That much is clear. \n\nHowever, SPOILER SPOILER the closing chapters of _Exodus_ state that the\ninhumi migrate between the worlds when they are in\nconjunction. That word \"conjunction\" in the astronomical sense refers to\na point in the orbital motions of two planets at which they reach a\nminimum apparent separation or even appear to meet, generally as\nobserved from a third planet. Two or more independently revolving\nplanets approach each other most closely, having reached the same\nazimuth in the ecliptic relative to the primary (sun) in their orbits,\nat\nwhich time the observed conjunction occurs. The point is, I don't think\nthe word \"conjunction\" has any meaning for a double planet\nsystem. \n\nIf the point of closest approach of the two components of a\ndouble-planet system was intended, I think the appropriate word would\nnot be\n\"conjunction\", but rather \"perigee\". \n\nTherefore, I believe that Blue and Green are planets which independently\norbit their primary sun, and cannot be Urth-Lune, or St. Croix-\nSt. Anne, for that matter.\n\nBTW, wasn't the Whorl dispatched FROM Earth anyway? I'll stop here\nbefore I have to go WHORL!"

"text": "well, <grasping at straws here> maybe the cataclysmic arrival of the New Sun\nshifts Lune into an eliptic orbit of Urth? Baldanders speaks of the waves of\ngravitation which cause the earthquakes at the close of UotNS....\n\nAll in all though, given the current lack of evidence it seems ever more the\nreasonable attitude that Green is not Lune. Nice thought though:\nmegalomaniacal Typhon, in a Rex quondam Rexque Futurus gambit, sends his\ndownloaded persona, a standing army and loyal subjects trained to believe\nthat Typhon is a god, in a relativistic time machine to the future (timed to\narrive after the coming of the New Sun, when Typhon will claim Ushas). ok\nok, but it was a nice thought.\n\nKieran\n\n\nNorth West Labs\nFinisklin Industrial Estate\nSligo\nRepublic of Ireland\n\nTel. +353 71 69441\nFax. +353 71 69451\nemail: kierannwn at tinet.ie"
