          "text": "While I generally agree that Wolfe shares a certain evasiveness\nwith his brother Coyote, I will grumblingly point out that in\nthe THRUST and James's interviews are consistent at least in\nclarifying that Weer is dead. No, Wolfe's random comments are\nnot authoritative over the text -- if only because the text is\nwhat it is and not what he intended, a statement anyone who has\never worked seriously at any art will understand -- but I suggest\nthat a reasonably consistent point of view, not inconsistent\nwith the text, has a certain degree of cachet.\n\nIn the meanwhile I'm still trying to put together a more detailed\ntabulation on the five parts. Perhaps someone can help with two \npoints?\n\n1. The titles. I note this trend: \n\t\"Alden Dennis Weer\" -- very specific\n\t\"Olivia\" -- still pretty specific but having a sort\n\t\tof vagueness, in that (a) the first name is\n\t\tconstant while she will later change her last\n\t\tname to \"Smart; and (b) it also seems, as\n\t\tseveral folks have pointed out, to refer to the\n\t\tolive branch of peace.\n\t\"The Alchemist\" -- definitely ambiguous; Smart or\n\t\tTilly? (And why \"Alchemist\" rather than \n\t\t\"Chemist?\")\n\t\"Gold\" -- very ambiguous; refers to a whole family\n\t\t_and_ to the \"gold hunt\" _and_ to the product\n\t\tof the alchemical process above.\nThen we come to \"The President,\" which _seems_ to jump\nback to specificity. Is there something I'm missing here?\n\n2.
