What I do\nbelieve is that many materialists _do_ think they are.\n(This is somewhat analogous to the way many conservative \nChristians believe that the account in Genesis and the \nStandard Model are mutually exclusive.)\n\nIn particular: I would say that the soulist approach is\nmore fundamental to a clear reading of Wolfe than is the\nmaterialist approach, but that Wolfe -- partially because \nhe _is_ an engineer/tech writer at heart -- also likes to\nprovide engineerish mechanisms by which the soulish\nevents occur. The Lupiverse, I should say,\nis somewhere in between."
