Dan'l,

The Lemony Snicket books are mildly funny, but clearly aimed
at kids. It's one joke ("Dear reader, this book is not a
happy story, maybe you better not read it") repeated many,
many times. After a while it gets uninteresting--I quit
reading them when he was done after book five.

"Lemony Snicket" is of course a pseudonym, and comes with a
faked history for the fake author.
