The love interest in TPM is tortured off-stage (by a fellow who likes pain himself and likes to inflict it, too). As a result of mutilation, her arms are later removed. This is so weird and nightmare-dreamy, and I wondered at it for a while before I suddenly thought of Venus de Milo.
Which is still weird, but at least it has a handle of sorts.
