          "text": "Thinking about it, the relation between Vodalus and the Autarch is ...\ninteresting. It is implied at some points\nthat Vodalus serves the Autarch. At others, it's implied that the A. serves\nV. (he's clearly a member of\nV's organization). This peculiar relationship will continue in Severian's\nreign, as he is a sworn Vodalarius;\neven after V. is replaced by Agila, I think it continues. There's this\nongoing dynamism - a conflict between \nthe tyrannical government and the rebels in the forest, on the surface, but\nunderneath they're engaged in an\nactively symbiotic relationship. Perhaps this gives the people the illusion\nof a choice of sides?\n\nOddly though, the relationship reminds me a great deal of the relationship\nbetween Bokonon and\n\"Papa\" Monzano in Vonnegut's CAT'S CRADLE..."
