          "text": "Judgement is maybe too formal a term for what happens\nin Lanark. But the text does give the impression that\nan alternative was at least possible and that it\ndepended largely on Lanarks actions. If he had stayed\nfocused at the assembly, maybe developing a new\nrelationship with Multan, then he _could_ have made a\nbig difference _and_ received help for the\nenvironmental problems _and_ eventually brought back\nthe sun (!!!) and natural time to Unthank. Instead he\nfailed and was sent home to wait for the chaos and the\nflood, which would profit the hidden powers at the\nexpense of the people that Lanark was supposed to be\nrepresenting.\n\nAll of these things echo with Severians story, even\nthe argument that Sev is something of an object of\nforces that don’t necessarily care much for the\n“common people”.\n\nBut hope and possibility of change wrought entirely by\nhuman hands and purely for our good does exist for\nGray. While in the flying thing Lanark hears\n“..is…is…is…if…is…is..”, and as Nastler says that’s\n“an incredible amount of freedom”.\n\nMalco\n\nAnd you are _spot on_ about Sludden/Blair… *g*\n\n\nYahoo!
