"text": "OK! There are (currently!) four main works in the Urth/Sun cycle, and\ntogether they take up 12 volumes.\n\nThese \"four main works\" are _The Book of the New Sun_ (4 vols), _Urth of the\nNew Sun_ (1 vol), _The Book of the Long Sun_ (4 vols) and _The Book of the\nShort Sun_ (3 vols). That's...\n\nThe Book of the New Sun, comprising\n1\tThe Shadow of the Torturer\n2\tThe Claw of the Conciliator\n3\tThe Sword of the Lictor\n4\tThe Citadel of the Autarch\n\n5\tUrth of the New Sun\n\nThe Book of the Long Sun, comprising\n6\tNightside the Long Sun\n7\tLake of the Long Sun\n8\tCalde of the Long Sun\n9\tExodus from the Long Sun\n\nThe Book of the Short Sun, comprising\n10\tOn Blue's Waters\n11\tIn Green's Jungles\n12\tReturn to the Whorl\n\nThat's the order in which they were writen and, for my money, by far the\nbest order in which to read them too.\n\nIf you're *really* hooked, there are also several short stories set in the\nsame universe. Off the top of my head, there's a couple in the collection\n_Endangered Species_ (\"The Map\" and \"The Cat\"), one in \"The Best of Crank\"\n(the utterly wonderful \"Empires of Foliage and Flower\"...or is it \"...Flower\nand Foliage\"?), one called \"The Night Chough\" that's collected somewhere or\nother... plus one or two others... um...\"The Old Woman whose Rolling Pin is\nthe Sun\" or something... Plus the amusing \"These are the Jokes\" in _Castle\nof the Otter_.\n\nAnyway, there's plenty of reading there to keep you busy!\n\nNigel"
