          "text": "I'm rereading the entire Sun books this summer, so I\nthought I'd throw out a few of the small puzzles that\nare bugging me (again) this time around. I just\nstarted, so all of these are from Shadow and the first\npart of Claw.\n\n1) What *is* the guild's secret (Shadow & Claw, p.\n72)? Sev says that he broke his promise not to reveal\nit, but I can never remember getting the full secret\ntold to me.\n\n2) How could Sev get lost in the tunnels if with his\n\"perfect\" memory (S&C, p. 32)? Is this due to the fact\nthat he might be doing a bit of time travel here? And\nwhile I'm at it, what exactly is the relationship\nbetween time travel and the Atrium of Time? Was this a\nplace where time travel \"used to\" be performed?\n\n3) When Sev mentions that the Guild has lots its\nprestige and is down to now only about 20 journeymen,\ndoes he mean this number to reflect only those in the\ntower? In other words, are there other carnifexes\ntrained by the torturers wandering around?\n\n4) And (I know this is a bit of an old topic), but why\ndoes Sev still see the bands on Agilus as if he were\nstill wearing a mask after he reveals the face that\nSev recognizes as a twin to Agia's? Is he still\nwearing another mask or does Sev misinterpret these\n\"bands\"? (Ch. 17)\n\n5) Why is there open space inside the wall of Nessus\n(where Sev performs with Talos and Baldanders the\nfirst time)? Baldanders says that Talos is wrong for\nthinking that it is just space to grow (S&C, 206-7)?\n\n6) Is Jonas' story at the end of Shadow about Typhon?\nWho, then, is the prophetess in the story? The Cumean\nor some precursor of Abaia?\n\n7) Are Green Men common? Severian isn't too surprised\nat the news, nor do the people in Saltus seem to think\nthat it's absolutely incredible. They speak about him\nas if he's a type of legendary figure rather than a\nsingle freak. So have others travelled back in time\nbefore? (p. 228)\n\nAny insights/clarifications?\n\nCraig"
