          "text": "Early in AoGG, Marilla specifies that they do not want\nto adopt 'a Home boy... a london street arab... '\ninstead she specifies 'a native born at least... a\nborn Canadian'.\n\nNowadays 'Home boy' would suggest something that is\nnot quite intended here. Lucy would be unaware of the\n'Homies' association.\nNevertheless I think the term 'Home boy' (houseboy?)\nis a reference to race.\nAnother possibility, is that she doesn't want a\n(Native) American! (possibly, unless they are\nCanadian)\nFinally a Home boy could come from old Europe... which\nwas still 'home' to some Canadians.\n\nOK time to try to hammer this back to 5HoC. Anne\n(before we met her), was responsible for the care of\nmany children we never meet.\n\n'She had twins three times. I like babies in\nmoderation, but twins three times in succession is too\nmuch. I told Mrs. Hammond so firmly, when the last\npair came. I used to get so dreadfully tired carrying\nthem about.'
