          "text": "Who was then the gentleman?\n\nhttp://www.rhymes.org.uk/a115-when-adam-delved.htm\n\nI did not know the origin of the rhyme until I found\nthis.\nSo as well as the Biblical, Reformation and\nwar/massacre references, it also directs us to the\nBlack Death and subsequent Peasants' Revolt.\nThis again fits in with GWs recurring theme of the\ngradual extension of emancipation through history.\nI have just had a mad splurge on Amazon and ordered\nall the Wolfe works I could find, that I do  not\nalready own.\nI've also ordered Borski's Solar Labyrinth' and\nFrancis Stevens 'The heads of Cerberus' "

It shows Adam after the Fall  digging with a\npointed ended shovel-like \nimplement (and there's a red ribbon like area in\nfront of him too).\n \nSo I think that (amongst all the other references)\nthis is to do with the \nsuggestion that the abos were prelapsarian humans:\nAdam only started delving \nafter and in consequence of the Fall and perhaps he\nalso couldn't as well as \ndidn't use tools before then.
