There is no recorded medieval Latin\n\"castizare\", French \"chastiser\", and no Old French \"chastir\",\n\"chastiss-\", the usual source of \"-ise\" and \"-ize\" in English verbs;\nthe word is too early to have been a simple English formation from\nCHASTE a. + \"-ise\".
