"text": "Greetings:\n\nSo I'm up to chapter 8 of \"Shadow\" when I come across\nan odd typo.\n\nThe title of the chapter is, \"The Conversationalist\".\n\nHowever, on page 60 (Tor/Orb edition), I come across\nthe following:\n\n(begin quoted section)\n\n\"Your'e in luck,\" Roche told me. \"I don't know how you\nworked this, but thank you.\"\n\n\"Worked what?\"\n\n\"A trip to the Echopraxia and a woman for each of us.\nI know you know--Master Gurloes told me he'd already\nnotified you.\"\n\n\"I had forgotten, and anyway I wasn't sure he meant\nit. Are we going to walk? It must be a long way.\"\n\n\"Not as long as you probably think, but I told you we\nhave funds. There will be fiacres at the Bitter Gate.\nThere always are--people are continually coming and\ngoing, though you wouldn't think it back in our little\ncorner.\"\n\nTo make conservation, I told him what the Chatelaine\nThecla had said that many people in the House Absolute\ndid not know we existed.\n\n(end quoted section)\n\nConservation? Conversation, no? A typo, to be sure,\nbut when you read something by Wolfe, even the typos\nmake you question whether they are typos or some sort\nof subtle hint/humor.\n\n\n\n Fred Kiesche (FPK3)\n \n My books are water; those of great geniuses are wine. Everybody drinks water. (Mark Twain, \"Notebook\")\nOver 7,000 postings served! See The Eternal Golden Braid (http://theeternalgoldenbraid.blogspot.com/ ).\n\n \n "
