The \nnumbers are given to us right in the text in a unique arrangement and Silk makes the sign of addition \nover them. Where else does Wolfe do something like this? How could it not be significant? I've messed \nwith it quite a bit over the past few years myself with no success though some of my attempts were \ninteresting. For a long while I was trying the cryptograph puzzle technique that Wolfe introduced\nin 5HoC. No success.\n \nNow, my best guess is that there is an association to the connection that Revelation makes between \nthe Seventh Seal and the 12 Tribes of Israel. When that Seal is broken, at the second coming of \nChrist, representatives from the 12 Tribes who have been long sealed away, will appear in two groups \nof 144,000 to repopulate the earth after the Armageddon. (slight variant interpretations exist)\n \nThe Pas seal being broken and stored Urth bodies being released to the Whorl seems awfully similar \nto the Bible story. But so far I haven't been able to add the numbers grouped in a way that produces \nthe significant number. I've even used the warped math that Maytera Rose gives us in the first chapter\nof Nightside but no success yet. Perhaps someone else can do it.\n \n\n \t\t \t \t\t "

He will draw appropriate symbols, I think.\nIn text, however, it is easy to cite numbers, while it is hard to describe such a teratoid symbol exactly. So it is not surprising that they do not."

UotNS was not planned when Wolfe wrote BotNS.\nTherefore Wolfe expected all the mystery solutions revealed in UotNS to be soluble without\nthat book. But they aren't. (I suppose one could consider them as suggesting that Typhon will return, but the interpretation that the vaults were sealed under his orders works fine too.)\n\nOne could also argue that there is a hidden meaning attached to the numbers being meaningless, combined with Silk’s reverent reaction to them. If the numbers were meaningful, Silk would be responding to a true deity, his author, and so his reverence would be appropriate.\n\n- Gerry Quinn"
