Perhaps, but maybe it is something a bit more sinister, as a hired assassin would create for his optimum target to make sure he doesn't miss. ?A tome in the library which deals with the assassination of Trotsky (even though it wasn't a bullet) at least does give us a political kind of reference - perhaps another foreshadowing.
