          "text": "Robert,\n\nWait a second--just because Mrs. B's mom =wants= to go doesn't mean\nthat she wasn't a prisoner.  A prisoner could be chosing between a\ncell and a homestead on the frontier.  But still, why would there be\nthat baby restriction?  Maybe just that the authorities deemed it too\ndangerous for babies to travel that way.\n\nSo the warship clears out the enemy strongpoints and the colony ship\ndelivers a load of undesirables to act as pioneers--win/win!\n\n(Meanwhile, if the ships take twenty years to get to the target, how\ngoes the war on Earth or in the Solar System?  Maybe the war on\nSainte Anne/Sainte Croix is more like Pearl Harbor [isolated surprise\nattack] than all of World War Two [a huge war between Great Powers]?\nThe better model would probably be islands in the Carribbean during\nthe Pirate age.)\n\n=mantis="
