This is Sean Whalen (prion).

I just had the thought that perhaps the struggle (and possible
eventual union) between the Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals is
parallelled by action or characters in Tracking Song in some way.

By the way, in spite of their antiquity, the Neander of Neanderthal
(however way you wish to pronounce it) means new man in Greek. 
Relevant to the story?  The reason is that they were first found in
the valley (thal) that belonged to Mr. Neumann (Neander).
