Right, that's the thing: Tin Soldier is crippled (as is Jonas); Tin Soldier is attracted to ballerina's beauty and her "crippled" nature (as Jonas is attracted to the Jolenta mask and, I agree with you, the crippled nameless waitress beneath that mask). (Then there's the tidbit that their fake names both start with letter J.)
Like attracts like: the artificial nature of Jolenta attracts the artificial nature of Jonas.
