          "text": "Konnichiwa, all.\nSpoiler?  Well, maybe.\nI'm almost through RTTW, and am already wishing for\nmore (so greedy).  A few recent postings  by Mr.\nStraight and Mr. Reilly made me wonder if I could be\nof use with another opinion.  In RTTW, Wolfe pointedly\ndirects the reader to pay extra-close attention to the\nvoices of the characters as clues to the shifting\nidentities.  For example, IGJ's cranky didactic tone\nseemed to me the result of the rocky relationship\nbetween pedantic Silk and dour Horn.  And in RTTW, I\nheard Silk's voice fairly often, and not just borrowed\nmemories.  Horn and Silk seem better integrated, and\nable to use their different strengths in tandem (i.e.\nSilk's warmth and charm, Horn's maturity and\n(relative) stability).  Some of their/his spoken\npassages are pricelessly polyphonic as subtle verbal\ntics are exchanged, as well as the physical tells\nwhich are occasionally mentioned.  In fact, I think\nSilk is far more present in RTTW, though Horn may well\nbe hamming it up for effect...I should go finish the\nbook, and post with quotes next time <g>.    -Shannon  "
