          "text": "Hi all,\n\nI just ran across some interesting information the\nother day that I thought I'd share with you.\n\nIt appears as if the Roman god Janus was a multifaced\ngod representing gates and doors, beginnings and\nendings. One of his temples on the Forum of Nerva had\nfour portals, called \"Janus Quadrifons\". Sometimes\nhe was represented as having four faces. However, he\nwas usually represented as a double-faced head, the\ntwo faces looking out in opposite directions. Janus was\nalso sometimes referred to as Bifrons.\n\nThis could possibly show how Pas (2 faces) and\nQuadrifons (4 faces) could possibly be directly\nrelated to one another.\n\nAll for now,\n\n - Matt\n\n*This is WHORL, for discussion of Gene Wolfe's Book of the Long Sun."
