          "text": "Hi!  I'm new to this list, and trying to start out\nwith\nsome useful information before I get to the unfounded\nspeculation.  I've looked at most of the latest\narchive and didn't see either of the following.\n\nThe \"pajarocu\" in Wijzer's story is apparently the\n\"Pájaro Cú\", which might be translated \"Coo Bird\", of\nLatin American folklore.  I doubt it has much to do\nwith \"pajarraco\".  I have a Mexican textbook with the\nwords of a popular song about the Pajaro Cu (in case\nthe accents aren't coming out) that has some distant\nresemblances to Wijzer's story.  Do people want to see\nit, with a translation, which will be a good exercise\nfor me?  E-mail me at this address; I'll send the\nlyrics to you personally or to the list, depending on\nhow much interest there is.\n\nAnyway, if anyone's been wondering about the\npronunciation, \"Pajarocu\" is undoubtedly accented on\nthe first and last syllables.\n\nI suspect more strongly that someone posted this at\nsome time, but the myth of Hyacinthus (or Huakinthos\nor whatever you like) has to do with death and sort-of\nresurrection.  You can find a version from _Bulfinch's\nMythology_ at\n<http://www.loggia.com/myth/hyacinthus.html>, or one\nwith more information at\n<http://hsa.brown.edu/~maicar/Hyacinthus1.html> in\nvaliant but not native English.\n\nI've been learning a lot from you folks in the archive\nand look forward to participating in the list!\n\nJerry Friedman"
