"text": "I was thinking it might be interesting to make a list of the major\nmysteries (or at least controversies) about the _Long Sun_ books.\n\nmantis did a nice (if typically oracular) one for the _New Sun_ books in\n_Lexicon Urthus_. (Perhaps it should be posted to the Urth list, which\nseems a bit moribund so far.)\n\nThese suggestions are in no particular order, as you will see. Some are\nbig mysteries, some are little...\n\n* Was that Pike's ghost in the manteion, or what?\n* Who was Blood's father?\n* Who was Orpine's father?\n* What are Quetzal's motives?\n* How long has the Whorl been in the Blue/Green system?\n* Why did Typhon/Pas send it?\n* Who was Urus working for?\n* What were the five very great things Mint gave up?\n* Did Silk replace Pas in Mainframe?\n* Should the landers really have gone to Green?\n* Exactly how much of the book did Horn make up?\n* Is Pas dead?\n* What about Blood's driver, was he Willet/Hossaan?\n* Who was the body in the tunnel?\n* What was the big fish that swallowed Mamelta?\n* Was Hyacinth a spy?\n* Who was the spy in the Calde's household Siyuf boasted of?\n* What went on between Hyacinth and Chenille that they didn't want to \ntalk about?\n* Was Silk enlightened by Severian?\n* Did Silk die in the pit? Why did Quetzal lie to Silk in the pit?\n* Is Mucor a goddess? How did she do that, anyway?\n* What was Silk so despondent about on the airship?\n* What about all that confusion between Marble and Mint in _Exodus_?\n\nFeel free to suggest additional mysteries. I'm certain I've missed some\ngood ones. Also, if anyone wants an explanation of any of these (you\nlatecomers have a lot of Archive to wade though), I'll try to provide\nit.\n\n -vizcacha\n (david_lebling at avid.com)"

I was thinking you might want to\nre-organize it by \"big\" and \"little\" mysteries, but on second thought\nI realized that our group could probably never reach agreement on\nwhich were either <g>, so best skip that taxonomic angle. Instead,\nmaybe divide the mysteries up into rough topics, like \"Identities\"\nfor issues of disguise, \"Lineage\" for issues of genetic/familial\nlines, et cetera? Well, maybe not--already I see some potential overlap\nwith only two categories.\n\nHey, it also looks like a FAQ sheet! (Rather than \"frequently asked\nquestions\" maybe ours would be \"frequently argued quibbles\"? <g>)\n\n=mantis="
