This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. The first time I read Shadow of the Torturer, I whipped through the book
like I read most science fiction books and I thought the book sucked.

Well, The Claw of the Conciliator won the Nebula, so I thought all right
I'll give the book another try.

The next time I read the book slowly and I LOVED it.  His writing carried
me away.  His plot is so-so, but his writing is wonderful.

Read Gene Wolfe, but read slowly. (a suggestion to those who think he
sucks.)
