Wolfe's "New Sun": Severian Unmasked!

Pat McMurray · 23 Sep 1995, 17:55 · from sf-lovers.1995.mbox

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Aha! That was John Clute writing in his book "Strokes" published by
Serconia Press in 1988. This is a closely reasoned, very convincing
argument - however I have heard the theory's been repudiated by Gene Wolfe.
This is third hand news at best, from sources I'd believe reliable, so take
it as you will.
