A Gene Wolfe glossary?

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

If you can find a copy of _The Castle of the Otter_, it contains some
essays by Wolfe on various aspects of tBotNS, including a very partial
glossary.

I'm halfway through _The Claw of the Conciliator_ on my first reading, but
the language hasn't troubled me too much.  Important stuff gets defined by
Severian (e.g. fuligin), is clear enough from context (e.g.  optimates is a
generic honorific for the high-born, with exultants -> armigers/armigettes
in status; denominations of coins go chrisos -> asimi -> aes), or is meant
to be slightly vague (destriers might be warhorses, baluchthithers might be
elephants??) in keeping with the huge gap in perception between us and
Severian.
