Just finished "Shadow of the Torturer"...confused as hell.

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I love Gene Wolfe and The Book Of The New Sun is my favorite all time
series. However, I advise all readers new to Wolfe, don't make the
destination the end-all, enjoy the journey. If Wolfe to sit you down and
clearly explain all his obscure references forget it. He reminds me of the
Alfred Hitchcock tv series where the end was never clearly shown. Usually
a show prompted discussion and differing opinions on what happened.

Wolfe takes you on a grande journey, if you don't enjoy the trip, then
you're not going to enjoy Wolfe IMO.
