Who's in Oreb

James Wynn · 27 Jun 2005, 16:28 · from 2005-June.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Well, all of Wolfe's narrators are unreliable to some extent and his identity
is rather ambiguous so his denial is not *complete* nor *entirely* wrong.

But leaving that aside, in this case, after a year of experimentation by
Scylla, he has had his beliefs about Pas exonerated.

"My name is not Silk...It has never been Silk."

"Was this you, Incanto? Were you on Green?"

"I shook my head and told him it had been someone else, a man whose
name I have forgotten, a man who wore a ring with a white stone.
My own name is Horn, no matter what Oreb may say."
