New Wolfe story: The Gunner's Mate (timothy fletcher)

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I was a little disappointed with the story.  I thought it was good, but not Wolfe-good, with evolving characters and discovered worlds, like 'Golden City Far' or 'The Tree is my Hat' or a few dozen others.  If there was more to the story, hidden references or whatever, I missed it.  I guessed the ending early and kept reading hoping I was wrong.  I wasn't.

 It is a fine ghost story, but a merely good story from the master is somewhat dissapointing.
