Appian

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Sorry to be coming to this late, but just as a point of pedantry,
only female (worker) bees are sterile -- I think that male bees are
invariably fully sexed.

And I think I would be rather disappointed if Wolfe did intend
"Appian" mainly to convey "Apian". Other references of Appian -- (a)
the C2 historian of that name, and (b) the most important road into
Rome, built by the populist consul Appius Claudius. Dunno quite where
those take us though.
