Blood Meridian - still utterly and completely off topic

don doggett · 01 Oct 2006, 04:01 · from 2006-September.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I'm a little less than halfway through it (It's a
quick read) so I'll reserve final judgement, but it's
pretty f'd up. I mean that as a compliment, though.
Humanity is winding down to zero and it's not going
gracefully. No postman, no Mad Max, no Mother Abigail
to set shit straight, not even a Vic and Blood (though
I caught a hint of a reference). The narrative choices
that McCarthy's made are making this book a very
interesting read. I'd say I'm looking forward to the
end, but the truth is I'm kind of dreading it; another
compiment to the novel's power.
