More Castleview (Spoilers)

Mo Holkar / UKG · 20 Jun 2007, 08:20 · from 2007-June.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

"Madadh" is Gaelic for "dog". So Rex von Madadh ~= king of the dogs.

Von Madadh must in some sense embody the spirit of Sally's dead dog
Rexy, or is a fay posing as it. Rexy was run over the previous year,
but reappears during the night. When Sally calls for Rexy, von Madadh
appears at the door, with muddy feet, and hands her a card the colour
of bone. He claims to work for the Daoine Institute -- the daoine
sidhe are the good fairies in Celtic myth.

On another note, von Madadh's beard is described as red-gold, and a
fox in Gaelic is just called "madadh ruadh", "red dog" -- shades of
the foxy Dr Talos?
