First sight of *An Evil Guest*

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Vance is dictating an autobiography? Didn't know that, but I imagine that
would be fascinating - judging from a brief "autobiographical sketch" of
his, he's had a fascinating life. I'm going to have to start a Vance thread
here one of these days... I've been reading a good deal of his stuff lately
and I'm fishing for recommendations on his best work.

It seems to me Wolfe's books have had simpler prose styles these past few
years - perhaps this is Wolfe's "late style?" Then again, Castleview was
years and years ago and that was written in a less-than-ornate style too...
And while Wolfe may not write as fast as King, he's still happily prolific
(And much more re-readable).
