This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

The first written "steampunk" I came across was "The Difference Engine" by Gibson and Sterling.
Around the same time, I was running a SF-RPG called "Space: 1889". Mars had canals, heck there were "men" IN the Moon, various nations were trying to conquer space...

It's basically a sort of homage to Jules Verne, et al in my mind.
Steampunk fiction tends to anachronisms featuring steam power,
clockwork, and other Victorian-era technology (and frequently societal
elements) providing the impetus for machines and devices that are
firmly in the realm of science fiction (giant walking weapons
platforms, for example, as in the anime Steamboy).
That's my quick 2 cent synopsis, anyway ;)
