This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. The giant keeps to channels on the island most of the time, doesn't he? 

I think he owes more to the other ur-story, the Battle of Hampton Roads, 
where the Monitor's considerable but not mountainous bulk remains at or 
below the waterline with only a 10 x 20 foot turret exposed.
