solar labyrinth

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Further to the labyrinthine question, John Clute responds:

> The sentence in question, which was certainly written by me,=20
>appears in the 1993 text form of the SFE as well. I'm [travelling
>and] a long way from sources, and can't for the life of me=20
>remember why I said it, beyond its seeming to be true..
> Michael Andre-Driussi [...] may either be able=20
>to scotch the rumour I started, or confirm my innate and readily apparent=20
>wisdom.=20

Clute will be at Readercon any day now, for those of you within striking
distance of Boston. *sigh*
