This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

It's pretty far afield from the original point about the nature of the Hierogrammates. While I think it's obvious that the Hierogrammates occupy a position "higher" than human beings, it's also fairly clear that they are not literally angels, unlike Lewis's eldila or Tolkien's Ainur or even Wolfe's own inhabitants of Kleos--they are not spirits, they are not direct creations of God, they are not eternal, etc. As such, I don't think they have the innate moral authority to bring the catacylsm of the New Sun. The mere fact that Christianity in most of its forms assumes the existence of angelic beings doesn't establish that the Hierogrammates are such beings anymore than it establishes that the Overcyns or gods of Latro's world are.
