Breakfast with Apheta

Paul B · 24 Jul 2008, 14:43 · from 2008-July.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Well, they do ostensibly have some surplus autarch testicles lying around...
Which incidentally brings up an interesting inconsistency: if I remember
correctly, the reason given for the castration of Epitome candidates is to
prevent them from forming dynasties, but this measure would clearly not work
for the majority of autarchs who apparently never even went to Yesod.
(Severian seems to have trouble recalling others besides Ymar and his
predecessor)
It's an odd rule to apply to a minor, and perhaps better, part of the pool.
Nevertheless, there don't seem to be dynasties anyway.
