This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Regarding point 3) we have to take into account that Wolfe's stories are not strictly hard sci-fi plausible in many points. You are correct that doubling-genes doesn't mean doubling limbs, not to mention that we are talking about completely diferent biochemistries and biologies and I pretty much doubt it would be so easy to cross two or more alien species so "simply". The same can be said of the blood-drinking inhumi, which assumes that alien blood can be drank with no problems, when veins and blood as we know it is only common to the animal kingdom on Earth (which makes up such a minor percentage of the total number of species). So some liberties have to be taken into account. I would consider Wolfe's books more like Science-Fantasy ? la Flash Gordon than anything else, albeit quite more deep than those and at a completely diferent level.
