House Absolute

Gwern Branwen · 01 Dec 2008, 15:30 · from 2008-December.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Besides the issues with being on the wrong continent, I think another
problem is that the site is in the middle of some real mountains and a
mountain range, and the House Absolute is, IIRC, on level or rolling
grounds. I don't think enough millions of years have passed for the
mountains to have been leveled down that far; certainly there's the
question how an underground base could have survived while the very
mountains have not.
