This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Interestingly enough, long before I read TBoTNS I would have these
occasional dreams or visions or hallucinations etc wherein I was to be
taken up by space aliens and judged in some way and if I was found wanting
I would be castrated. These were in no way pleasant, and sometimes could
be quite distracting. Of course, remember that this is someone whose
earliest memory is getting the end of his penis cut off talking to you.

Anyway.

You can imagine that when I read TBoTNS I was completely blown away. At
that point I knew I had to talk with Wolfe about it. I met him for the
first time in the early 80's in the company of John Cramer, a theoretical
physicist and childhood friend of his, and we had a long discussion, in
the course of which and among many other things I discovered that Wolfe
was not a gnostic but an orthodox Catholic, I first heard the name 'Jorge
Luis Borges' as someone whose writing he thought I might enjoy and we
agreed that my hallucinations or what have you were probably caused by the
experience of reading the book (not necessarily just *my* experience of
reading the book) echoing back up the timeline.

Anyway, the whole thing was pretty seminal for me and is deep in towards
the core of my ideas about time and Reality and so on.
