This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I originally thought the story must take place on Halloween, but it
is most likely to be Samhain (7th November), the New Year and start of=20
Winter or Geimhreadh (Gaelic).  I suspect _The Golden Bough_ would be a=20
good reference for a death of the old king, a competition (?) for his=20
wife and home, plus a replacement/scapegoat to allow the Summer King to=20
survive and wait until his turn comes around at Beltaine.=20

For those as ignorant as me, the _Valse Triste_ was written as
accompaniment to a scene where a dying woman dreams of a ball, and
mistaking Death for her husband, starts to dance with him.=20
