This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I don't know if this is related, or what theory it helps or hurts, but the
morning after Cassie received the gold bracelet she talked to Gid and
mentioned that Wally Rosenquist had given it to her. (75) Gid reacted as if
surprised to hear that name. I don't know how to take that. Given the
ubiquity of computers, data bases and search engines in the story, to say
nothing of the FBI files he had access to, I find it hard to believe that
Gid could be unfamiliar with that name if it had been an established Reis
alias. Yet Zelda talked in veiled terms as if Rosenquist, "under a dozen
names", was well established in financial circles. (90) And India had no
doubts that "Wally" was filthy rich. (105) So why did Gid react that way?
