Gene Wolfe Fans Talk Politics (Again)

Jeffrey Brent McBeth · 22 May 2009, 11:49 · from 2009-May.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Didn't feel smeared at all. There are bad eggs here, just like
everywhere else. There are lots and lots that are well meaning but
horrible with the implementation (we're all amateurs). It should also
come as no surprise to anybody that has read any Douglas Hofstadter or
Isaac Asimov (or has attended churches) that each congregation has its
own personality that is more than the sum of its congregants.

I really wanted to pull things back to Gene Wolfe with that last
sentence, but his books seem to me to concentrate so much on the
individual, that group psychology and dynamics don't come into relief
as much as with other authors.
