Blinded me with "science"

Marty Light · 15 Oct 1998, 08:41 · from urth-v0020.mbox · original

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

>>> Bozosity Of The Day <<<

Daily proof that there is no shortage of bozosity when it comes
to expert pontifications. From garage.com:

"I am tired of this thing called science.... We have spent millions in
that sort of thing for the last few years, and it is time it should be
stopped."

-- Simon Cameron, U. S. Senator from Pennsylvania, demanding that
funding end for the Smithsonian Institution, 1861

Misinformation (Cerf and Navasky, New York: Pantheon Books, 1984).
