This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything
here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer
encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the
archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those
repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is
for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site,
so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

He's a liar (maybe), and certainly not above shading the story to paint him in a better light than the facts might justify, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading what he wrote. I got the sense that underneath, he's not really a terrible guy. Unlike Abel. Abel is a brute and a bully. Didn't identify with him at all. I still liked the book, even if the "subvert heathen beliefs to Christianity!" theme was a little heavy-handed versus some of Wolfe's other books. Like I said, it's not Wolfe's most subtle work, but it's a damn sight better than most books out there. -LH On Mon, Nov 9, 2009 at 9:40 PM, David Duffy <David.Duffy at qimr.edu.au> wrote: > On Mon, 9 Nov 2009, James Wynn wrote: > >>> Maybe Abel really is dumb and illiterate, but it was ?sometimes difficult >>> to follow the narrative because Abel is a bad ?storyteller. >> >> Well, honestly, the part about being a bad story-teller is true of >> Severian, as well (to the extent that it IS true). > > And what about guy in _Peace_ -- he's all over the place ;) > > David Duffy > > > _______________________________________________ > Urth Mailing List > To post, write urth at urth.net > Subscription/information: http://www.urth.net >
