Appearances of Inire

David Stockhoff · 28 Jun 2010, 19:26 · from 2010-June.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

It's one thing to suggest multiple Inires. He could probably handle
that. And if so, then one of them could be blind without them all being
blind. And I suppose the multiple names would be so he could keep
himself straight.

Also, since Father Inire himself never appears, it follows that he must
appear as something other than Father Inire.

But I agree with what I think is your skepticism: there is the principle
of conservation of characters, but this is overapplication. At this
rate, anyone (male) could be Inire after several hundred years, even
Severian if he works on his tan.
