The mystery of the image of an astronaut cleaned by Rudesind

António Pedro Marques · 04 Jul 2010, 19:40 · from 2010-July.txt.gz

This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I don't like the idea of reducing the whole book to a single character.
Along the lines of thought that have been presented here, everyone could be
everybody (yeah, I know others have complained about this before).

The old Autarch appears in the book before we know who he is. Father Inire
is never mentioned as appearing but there is at least one time someone
appears who may be he (at the old Autarch's accident). I really don't think
any more connections are called for. Where's the added value in positing
that FI is, say, Rudesind? Unless it is conducive to a richer reading, I
think speculation on any Gene Wolfe material is to be seriously avoided.
