This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your exposition, I agree with much though not all of it, but it
addresses a different question than the one I was asking. I'm empahtically
not dismissing that kind of approach. I'm calling for it to be purposeful.

I think my reply earlier in the afternoon didn't make it to the list, so
I'll just repeat it below:

But that's not at all what I'm saying. Of course there are loadheaps  of
dots to connect. What I'm arguing against is their wanton connection
- precisely because there is so much to work with. That's why I insist on
results: don't connect things because you believe they fulfill some pattern
- patterns are a dime a dozen. Rather, connect  them if they lead to novelty.
