This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

I can agree with this. I'll further suggest that in reading this work of science fiction, 
we have a spectrum of preferences ranging from the more scientific to the more 
fiction/artistic. Some prefer to understand this story with the tools of science- 
objective observation of the "facts" and parsimony (Occam) in interpretation. Others 
enjoy artistic interpretation which relies on in-depth cultural understanding and 
intuitive leaps of faith. Credit to Gene wolfe for creating literature which appeals 
to both ends of the spectrum and those in between.
