This is the message as the crawl holds it, before anything here touched it. What the conversation shows has been through ingest: transfer encodings decoded, attachments dropped, quote markers repaired, and the archiver’s ? resolved into quotation marks and dashes. Those repairs are judgements and some of them are wrong, which is what this page is for. Email addresses are obscured here as they are everywhere else on the site, so it is before our repairs rather than byte for byte.

	And of course, Proust's REMEMBRANCE OF THINGS PAST must go on the
shelf.  Suzanne Delage of course, and a major influence on narrative struct=
ure
of PEACE and BOTNS.

	Also, maybe throw in some Lafferty--not that it's a visible influence
on Wolfe's work, in my opinion, but Wolfe's introduced some of his small pr=
ess
works, and is definitely a fan of Lafferty's quirky vision.  Besides, they
often seem to be coming from the same kind of theological/philosophical POV
(both conservative Catholics with some odd ideas on evolution and the vario=
us
mythologies of the world...)
	Similarly, I'd add something by Avram Davidson (perhaps the collection
of Dr. Esterhazy stories Wolfe introduced?), another offbeat writer that Wo=
lfe
has praised fairly often.
	And one last thing--somewhere, I can't recall where, Wolfe said that
Robert Coover's baseball book (HENRY J. WAUGH, something or other UNIVERSAL
BASEBALL ASSOCIATION) is one of his favorite novels.

I think mantis is correct that an item of a general FAQ should be a list of
every book/author Wolfe has mentioned in an interview.  Another would be a
listing of books by other writers that list members feel would appeal to Lu=
pine
addicts.
